12 Nights of Yule- December 23rd

It’s the fourth night of Yule and today I’m taking the time to honor April, the fourth month, which is known for being a great time to do a lot of spring cleaning around the house. Kitchens and bathrooms get scrubbed down. Bedrooms and closets are reorganized. All drapes, linens and sheets are thrown into the washing machine.

Even nature gets a good washing from all the cleansing April rain showers.

I want to take spring cleaning a step further and focus on detoxing my mind, body and soul. This April I will be creating my own 30 day Spiritual Detox Challenge and invite anyone who’s in need of a good soul-scrubbing to join in.

This is some of what April will look like for me:

Journaling. Writing in my journal has helped me release those melodramatic thoughts that can cause a full-on mental breakdown if left unchecked. Sometimes I go back to reread what I’ve written and make funny little notes to myself like, “Whoa girl- you had some feelings ‘bout that, huh?” It’s funny how an emotion that seemed so intense and definitive in the moment can appear so trivial once the dust has settled.

Smudging. Burning a bundle of white sage is very common in rituals and spell-crafting but it’s also very useful for regular purification maintenance. It releases negative ions which helps neutralize the excess of positive ions in the air. Science has proved that too many positive ions can cause damage to cells within the human body and causes feelings of anxiety, lethargy and depression. Negative ions assist in uplifting your energy and even help clear the air of mold spores, dander, bacteria, etc.

Meditation. I’m the kind of person who has a hard time meditating. My mind can bounce around like a basketball, especially when I try to still it. But I’ve found that certain nature sounds help me achieve a state of deep relaxation and eases me into a meditative state. My favorites are the sounds of a crackling fire, crashing ocean waves, the wind blowing through leaves and soft thunderstorms. If I can’t experience the real life sounds, I have a full playlist on YouTube to choose from.

Crystal Chakra Healing. The vibrations of crystals like selenite and amethyst are incredibly healing and purifying. Simply holding them during meditation and connecting with their vibrations leaves me feeling more clear-headed and cleansed. But to take it a step further, I want to start Chakra Healing with crystals, choosing specific ones for the various chakra points on my body.

Ritual Baths. Baths are always soothing but a ritual bath elevates the experience by shifting your mindset into a more spiritual state. Make a warm mug of green tea and honey. Light candles. Sprinkle Epsom salts into the tub to detoxify the body. Craft magickal bath sachets of lavender, rose petals and marjoram. Try crafting your own soap or supporting your local artisanal soap maker. I enjoy Inunctus Artisan Spa Treasures Lemongrass Bar which contains antioxidant-rich Matcha powder, purifying sea salt & tea tree and gorgeous hydrators like shea butter and hemp seed oil. When unplugging the bath, visualize the water pulling all the released negativite energy down the drain.

How do you like to detox? Leave me a reply and let me know!

12 Nights of Yule- December 21st

Merry Yule

I hope everyone is enjoying the Winter Solstice as much as I am. The weather was bright and beautiful so I decided to do my writing outside and connect with the returning Sun.

As I’ve mentioned before in my Happy Witch post, 2016 was not very kind to me. My life was flipped upside down and inside out, yet as the year is coming to an end all I feel is gratitude. This is, after all, the night of Rebirth and Renewal.

On the second night of Yule, I dedicate my magick to the second month of the coming year- February. I personally adore February and all things Valentine’s Day. I can’t get enough of the cutesy decorations, the candy, the pink & red hearts- all of it!

I guess I don’t see the commercialization of it all because Valentine’s Day holds special sentimental value for me, being my parent’s anniversary. They taught us that Valentine’s Day wasn’t about Hallmark cards and boxes of chocolate. It’s about the universal gift of love- all kinds of love, especially the love of your family.

Instead of exchanging gifts with each other, they’d go out and get us kid’s presents. When I was thirteen, I had revealed I was converting to paganism and on Valentine’s Day they came home from their date with a deck of tarot cards for me. I was overjoyed! Those tarot cards were more than just a Valentine’s gift. They were representative of something not every young witch receives from their religious family- unconditional support and acceptance.

Ironically, support and acceptance are the very two things I’ve had trouble giving myself this year. But I’m determined to change that and this February I will not only be celebrating familial and, of course, romantic love- I will be celebrating the importance of self-love.

Today I have prepared a lovely herbal mixture of dried yellow rose petals for love, catnip for happiness and lavender for healing. After purifying with white sage and cinnamon incense, I crushed my herbs together at my working altar while setting my intention and drawing on the positive energies of the rose quartz and amethyst crystals.

Once I had created a fine blend of the herbs, I anointed tonight’s candle with lemon essential oil for added purification and brightness. Afterwards, I rubbed my Self Love Herbal Blend onto it, inhaling its gorgeous scent and smiling as I visualized my happy future.

I chose a pink candle for its peaceful, gentle energy and have placed it on my Venus altar for tonight’s celebration. As it burns, I welcome and give thanks to the returning light of the Sun who shines upon my path of healing.

I know this is a very different type of Yule celebration, but I see tonight’s ritual as my own rebirth and am discovering a renewed sense of self-worth in the process.

I hope everyone is having a blessed Yule and are enjoying the same warmth that I feel in my heart tonight.

Blessed be!

The Happy Witch Project

I don’t know about you but 2016 was not the happiest year of my life. From losing my health, my job, my apartment and a few people I thought were my friends- it’s safe to say this year pretty much kicked my ass.

It took a lot of shadow work, gratitude lists, quality time with my loved ones and tons of Pinterest inspirational quotes to remember- life is what you make of it.

So with my heart and soul- battered and bruised, I made it my mission to get my happiness back.

My path to happiness began with healing.

After countless visits to the doctor accompanied with expensive medical bills, I couldn’t get a definitive diagnosis for my painful stomach issues. I would wake up almost every morning vomiting, enduring sharp abdominal pains and trying to find the strength to peel myself off the bathroom floor.

Not only was I fighting for my physical health, I was also fighting for my emotional & mental health. For longer than I’d like to admit, I was the constant victim of some pretty relentless workplace bullying. It took a full-on emotional breakdown to decide that my health was worth more than a paycheck. And so, after five years working at a place I considered my home- I decided to quit.

At the time, I thought my life was over. I couldn’t afford my rent or my bills. I could hardly afford to feed myself.

But it turns out, quitting was the best decision I ever made.

I began to focus on my spirituality again, and of course, the Goddess- the eternal healer, was there for me when I needed her the most.

Crystal healing helped to reenergize me, rebalance my chakras and calm my anxious heart. It wasn’t long before my health began to improve and I suddenly realized all my emotions and stress are closely connected to my stomach- which is common in a lot of Cancerians.

I’m still on this healing journey and am determined to make 2017 my happiest year yet. I encourage anyone who is dealing with anxiety, depression and unhappiness of any kind- to join me in my Happy Witch Project where I will be posting about my personal path to happiness in the hopes it might help someone who’s struggling with their own.

Blessed Be!
