A Witches Magickal Morning Routine

I’m not gonna lie… getting up early is really hard for me. If I don’t have to get up for any particular reason, I can rationalize rolling over and staying under the covers for at least another hour or so.

But I also love the mornings. The air is fresher. The birds are singing. The warmth of the rising sun is like a cozy warm blanket. And best of all- there ain’t no time for coffee time like morning time! Nah mean?

Good Morning Little Witch

I wake up to three S’s: smiling, stretching & sunshine.

The act of smiling invokes gratitude which is a wonderful emotion to start the day with, especially for this Cancerian who’s notorious for being a lifelong worry-wort. Stretching increases the blood flow, relieves any muscle tension, raises energy levels… and after 7-8 hours of rolling around in my awkward flamingo sleeping positions- it just feels freakin’ fantastic! Lastly, I fling the curtains open and let His glorious sunshine in, absorbing all that vitamin D and uplifting my mood with my other favorite “S”- serotonin.

As I have mentioned before in my Pagan Bullet Journal post, I have made a witchy spin off of Hal Alrod’s Miracle Mornings. He created six habits called S.A.V.E.R.S which stand for Silence, Affirmations, Visualizations, Exercise, Reading and Scribing.

My six habits are slightly different and catered to the pagan spirit. I call them M.A.G.I.C.K which stands for Mantra, Action, Ground & Center, Inspiration, Creative Visualization and Knowledge.

Hal Alrod employs Affirmations, which I think are brilliant for morning motivation but I have found some affirmations to be a bit long-winded and hard for me to truly connect with. Maybe it’s the witch in me, but I like chants. I like words and phrases with rhythm in it. Mantras are words, statements or sounds which are repeated to raise personal vibrations of intention. I usually start slowly, connecting with each word then I repeat the mantra faster and faster until I’ve built up my personal vibrations to it’s highest level. Think of every syllable as a beat of a drum. Let each beat fuel your mind, body and soul with intention for the day.

This next step could be seen as the Exercise portion of S.A.V.E.R.S but I am not the type of person who will commit to working out every day. So instead I call this step Action because it could involve a workout regimen, which I try to do 2-3x/week, or it could be the action of accomplishing some quick morning chores- just as long as I put my body in motion. I find that two things are happening when I do this- I’m getting my body out of rest mode and I am tackling a couple of tasks that would be weighing on my mind as I tried to enjoy the rest of my magick morning habits.

Ground & Center

After I’ve put my body into motion with some sort of Action, I can earth the energy with a little Grounding & Centering.

To Center oneself is to draw all scattered energies back within yourself to a spiritual center which can be imagined in many different ways. I like more whimsical imagery such as a group of fluttering butterflies flying around me as I sit in a lush beautiful field, breathing deeply under a large lone tree. The butterflies represent my scattered thoughts and with each deep breath I call them to me. One by one the butterflies rest on parts of my body- my shoulders, my legs, my hands, my head; and as they do my solar plexus begins to glow brighter and brighter until I’ve reached my spiritual center.

Grounding is the spiritual act of connecting with the Earth and drawing from Her abundance of energy. Once centered, I focus on grounding using the same imagery as before but this time focusing on the lone tree. As I sit underneath it, I press my back up against its trunk and continue to breathe deeply. As I breathe, my spine begins to grow roots which dig deep within the Earth, burrowing and curling into the darkness below. Slowly, I am becoming the tree with a strong, sturdy trunk and long branches, reaching higher and higher into the sky through the bright fluffy clouds and farther up into the blackness of the Universe. Sometimes meditation can be a bit hard for me, but this type of imagery calms my mind and connects me to the Divine.

I don’t know about you but I am a very visual person, which is why I love planning, brain dump illustrations and vision boards. I have Vision Pages in my Pagan Bullet Journal for quick reference but lately I’ve been using a manifesting journal which I call my Book of Visions. This is basically a Vision Board within a large sketchbook for everything I want to manifest into my life. I also like to use the internet for inspiration with a Pinterest Vision Board and YouTube playlists of videos that inspire me. This Inspiration step helps assist me with my Visualizations by putting those images in my head which I can then begin to work with creatively within my mind.

Creative Visualizations

Creative Visualizations are not only images but also the perceptual experience of all the senses. Not only do I see what I want, I can feel it, hear it, smell it, taste it. Once we sense all of this with every inch of our being, we can then send it out to the Universe clearly and with ease because everything we want has already happened within our mind’s eye. If there is something specific I am trying to visualize, I like to grab a corresponding crystal and connect with it as I craft my visualizations, sometimes holding it to my third eye and crown chakras for extra assistance in manifesting.

With a fully stimulated mind, my Knowledge step involves planning out my day, gaining wisdom from my daily divination and studying up on my craft. I track my yearly, monthly and daily tarot reads in my Witchy Bullet Journal. I also like to keep my Daily Draw on my altar within this gold terrarium I use as a card holder. I jot down any thoughts or keywords and use the card as a general guide for my day. Before bed, I go back and write any events which took place that may have correlated with that card.

At this point, not only is my mind and body fully awake and functioning, so is my spirit.

Of course some days are better than others. Sometimes I don’t get to complete all my Magickal Morning practices, either because it’s a busy weekend or I don’t have the time to do everything thoroughly… and that’s okay.

This routine is about living with intention in different ways, no matter how big or how small. If all I can manage is one minute of morning magick, I’ll take it. And it’ll be the best minute I’ve spent all day!

How do you like to make your mornings more magickal?

Leave a reply and share your own routine.

Blessed Be!

The Daily Witch: Sacred Sunday

Sundays just feel different from the other six days of the week. It feels brighter than normal. The birds are chirping more. Families come together for barbeques. The kids are out playing and soaking in the sunlight.

Sunday corresponds to the Sun and is great for working on your career and advancing towards your dreams.

If I’m writing that day, I’ll call upon the fire goddess Brigid for illumination and inspiration.

Sundays offer vibrant and positive energies to any task.

Even as I whittle away at my chore list, I fling the curtains open, turn on some bright, fun music and enjoy it.

As I sit down with my weekly planner, I think about what goals I want to accomplish then develop ways to achieve them.

Eat healthier? Develop a nutritional meal plan and create a healthy grocery list.

Workout more? Schedule workouts that I love to do like pilates or yoga so I can look forward to doing them in the morning.

Save more money? Create a financial plan for the week and stick to a more strict budget. Find ways to enjoy life without spending money.

Be more grateful? Write a daily gratitude list and read it whenever I’m feeling overwhelmed or gloomy.

Every Sunday is a new opportunity to have an amazing week living the kind of life you deserve.

Plant or harvest something new, not just material crops, but also metaphysical ones!

When you create something from nothing, prepare to win everything!

The Daily Witch: Saturday Secrets

Saturdays are ruled by Saturn, representing the “great unknown” which makes it a great day for all types of magick.

Of course, you’d want to keep in mind the moon’s phase, its astrological timing, magick hours, void-of-course, etc.; for the best results in accordance to the spell you are crafting.

As for me, I like to sit in Nature and listen to Her secrets.

On Saturday morning, with a warm cup of coffee I listen to the music of the wind as it orchestrates her song, wafting through the tree’s leaves and singing jingles with my porch wind chimes.

On a cool evening, sitting around a crackling bonfire, I gaze into its flames, connecting with its ancient wisdom. Connecting with deity means something different to every witch.

How do you like to connect?

The Daily Witch: Flirty Friday

Everyone knows the acronym TGIF and its meaning- Thank God it’s Friday. For most, it’s an expression of relief that the workweek is over and a nice, relaxing weekend is coming.

For witches, TGIF stands for Thank Goddess it’s Friday.

Fridays are ruled by the planet Venus, dedicated to the Roman goddess of love and is named after Freya, the Nordic goddess of love and beauty.

This day is about enjoyment and indulging in one’s beauty. Everyone has their insecurities, but today is the day to celebrate what makes us beautiful and practice little acts of self-love.

I like to create a Beauty Altar dedicated to goddesses such as Hathor, Oshun, Aphrodite, and of course, Freya. This can be as simple as a vanity decked out with all my beauty products and little touches of gold and pink in their honor. I take a little extra time getting ready, maybe going for a more glamourous look than my normal day-to-day makeup.

Date nights are great for Fridays due to its associations with love. My fiance and I will enjoy each other’s company with some good food and a few drinks. Once home we’ll get into our comfy clothes and curl up to watch a movie with some popcorn and candy.

How do you enjoy yourself on Fridays?

The Daily Witch: Triumphant Thursdays

Thursdays are ruled by Jupiter- the planet of strength, success, expansion and long-term good fortune.

It was also named for the god Thor, who’s known for his mighty hammer and triumphant victories. Summoning Thor’s traits of power, courage and confidence can be helpful for business deals or personal relationships where strength & conviction are needed.

Thursdays are great for making big purchases or dealing with your finances. It’s also a lovely day to indulge in luxury. Treat yourself to a manicure or a beautiful dinner and enjoy the finer things in life.

If finances are tight, attract wealth and abundance by lighting a green candle dressed with simple herbs like basil or thyme. If you desire the right type of employment, performing a spell on this day assists in giving it a little extra oomph.

But always remember, gratitude is the key to prosperity. The Law of Attraction begins to work for you when you begin to put out positive thoughts and raise your personal vibrations with feelings of gratitude, love and joy.

What you think, you become

What you feel, you attract

What you imagine, you create.

The Daily Witch: Wednesday Words

Any type of communication & commerce is excellent for Wednesdays, such as responding to emails, making any business calls, catching up with friends & family, studying and writing.

Wednesday is named for the Woden, or Odin, Norse god representing ultimate wisdom.

In magick, this is a great day for communion with deity and all types of divination like tarot, oracle cards, runes, etc.

I choose this day to get a lot of my writing done. Wednesdays are ruled by the planet Mercury so I like to carve the Mercury symbol on a light blue or purple candle, sometimes dressed with lemongrass. I’ll keep it lit on my desk as I work on my writing to assist with inspiration & clarity.

Happy Wednesday!

The Daily Witch: Moonchild Mondays

Mondays, being ruled by the Moon, brings the powerful element of water into play. This energy helps all our hard work flow into the goals we wish to accomplish.

I like to honor the Goddess with small symbols like donning a simple pearl necklace to represent her connection to the sea; or throwing on some sparkly, silvery jewelry in honor of the Moon’s color.

Mondays are also a great day for purification, whether it be a long purifying bath with a lavender and rosemary sachet or deep cleaning the home with a lemon essential oil & vinegar spray.

How do you like to honor the Moon & the Goddess on Mondays?
