12 Nights of Yule- December 22nd

I hope everyone enjoyed the Winter Solstice yesterday. I know I did. My Yule candle dressed in my Self Love Herbal Blend, burned beautifully. I love how candles spark as the flame hits the essential oils and dried herbs. It’s absolutely captivating.

Tonight is the third night of Yule and today I’m honoring the third month of the new year- March. Anytime I think of March, I think of Ostara and have found a lot of adorable Pinterest ideas for Ostara crafting that I can’t wait to create this coming Spring Equinox.

I’m spending the day setting my intentions for March and which seeds I’d like to plant. March is wonderful time to get dirty and dig up that soil for all kinds of new growth.

I like to ask myself:

What new growth do I need in my life?

What figurative seeds need planting?

What part of my life needs tending?

What part of my life needs pruning?

Another Ostara staple I love are eggs. The egg represents new life and the Divine Womb from which all life is created. In my culture, the huevo is used in a Limpia to cleanse and remove illnesses or negativity from the mind, body and spirit. My grandmother- a curandera, has performed these egg cleansings on my family and I ever since I can remember- to bless us, to heal us, to remove mal de ojo, etc.

Needless to say, eggs hold a lot of power, which is why I use it often in my kitchen witchery. My breakfast today was extra special and filled with magickal intentions. I made the classic Egg on Toast- simple, yet charged with all kinds of blessings for the New Year.

My ingredients are slices of French bread, dried chives, parsley, crushed red pepper flakes and of course, the ever-incredible egg.

I can’t help but think of the returning Sun as I crack open an egg and reveal the perfect circle of bright yellow yolk inside. In today’s kitchen magick this egg represents the year ahead.

My slices of bread represent the abundance and prosperity I will harvest. As I light the fire on my stovetop to heat the bread and cook the egg, I envision the fire within myself coming alive this year. All my passions, my creative endeavors, my goals are ignited with its flame.

As the bread is being grilled, I sprinkle the other side with the dried parsley and crushed red pepper flakes, invoking their protection and security.

As my egg cooks, I sprinkle the dried chives on top of the yolk to heal the heartbreaks of last year and help me move past them as I enter the New Year.

I layer the green-flecked egg on top of the herbed grilled toast sealing my intentions for a bright year of abundance, creativity, healing and protection.

And let me just say, if 2017 turns out half as good as this meal tastes- I think I am in for one hell of a year!

Blessed be!

12 Nights of Yule- December 21st

Merry Yule

I hope everyone is enjoying the Winter Solstice as much as I am. The weather was bright and beautiful so I decided to do my writing outside and connect with the returning Sun.

As I’ve mentioned before in my Happy Witch post, 2016 was not very kind to me. My life was flipped upside down and inside out, yet as the year is coming to an end all I feel is gratitude. This is, after all, the night of Rebirth and Renewal.

On the second night of Yule, I dedicate my magick to the second month of the coming year- February. I personally adore February and all things Valentine’s Day. I can’t get enough of the cutesy decorations, the candy, the pink & red hearts- all of it!

I guess I don’t see the commercialization of it all because Valentine’s Day holds special sentimental value for me, being my parent’s anniversary. They taught us that Valentine’s Day wasn’t about Hallmark cards and boxes of chocolate. It’s about the universal gift of love- all kinds of love, especially the love of your family.

Instead of exchanging gifts with each other, they’d go out and get us kid’s presents. When I was thirteen, I had revealed I was converting to paganism and on Valentine’s Day they came home from their date with a deck of tarot cards for me. I was overjoyed! Those tarot cards were more than just a Valentine’s gift. They were representative of something not every young witch receives from their religious family- unconditional support and acceptance.

Ironically, support and acceptance are the very two things I’ve had trouble giving myself this year. But I’m determined to change that and this February I will not only be celebrating familial and, of course, romantic love- I will be celebrating the importance of self-love.

Today I have prepared a lovely herbal mixture of dried yellow rose petals for love, catnip for happiness and lavender for healing. After purifying with white sage and cinnamon incense, I crushed my herbs together at my working altar while setting my intention and drawing on the positive energies of the rose quartz and amethyst crystals.

Once I had created a fine blend of the herbs, I anointed tonight’s candle with lemon essential oil for added purification and brightness. Afterwards, I rubbed my Self Love Herbal Blend onto it, inhaling its gorgeous scent and smiling as I visualized my happy future.

I chose a pink candle for its peaceful, gentle energy and have placed it on my Venus altar for tonight’s celebration. As it burns, I welcome and give thanks to the returning light of the Sun who shines upon my path of healing.

I know this is a very different type of Yule celebration, but I see tonight’s ritual as my own rebirth and am discovering a renewed sense of self-worth in the process.

I hope everyone is having a blessed Yule and are enjoying the same warmth that I feel in my heart tonight.

Blessed be!

12 Nights of Yule- December 20th

Yule officially begins today at sunset, the night before the Winter Solstice.

On this day I like to prepare my Yule altar with pine cones and pine branches. I have also chosen a handful of runes to aid me in the coming year, as well as a few of my favorite crystals. Mercury retrograde has started yesterday so I’ve chosen black tourmaline, selenite and a quartz crystal for their protection.

I also like to set my intentions for each month of the upcoming year with every night of the winter solstice. Tonight is dedicated to January and as I light the first of the twelve candles, I’ll meditate and journal about my intentions for that month.

In my last post I talked about doing a Brain Dump for each of my monthly plans on a huge piece of drawing paper. I’m a very visual person and I often like to draw out my ideas so it’s easier for me to meditate on the images without getting my thoughts jumbled.

In January, I want to start creating habits for more a more productive, creative and healthy lifestyle. These are just a few of what I will be focusing on doing in the New Year:

Write every day and stick to a writing schedule.

Study more of the Craft.

Work on my Book of Shadows.

Meditate and perform my daily magickal routines every morning & evening.

Do daily, weekly and monthly tarot and oracle reads.

Eat healthier and buy more organic foods.

Workout at least a couple of times a week.

Save more money than I spend.

I’ll also decorate my altar with physical representations of my intentions, such as: my Book of Shadows, my favorite pen, my planner, my study notebooks, my tarot cards and a silver typewriter my fiance gave me last year.

This altar isn’t very structured or orderly- it’s simply a beautiful mixture of my favorite things, reminding me of what I intend to explore in the coming year.

Do you celebrate Yule only on the 21st or do you like to honor each night of the winter solstice leading up to the New Year?

Leave me a reply and let me know!
